ABOUT THE MUSEUM

Mission

To engage and connect our diverse communities with dynamic exhibits, exceptional art education, stimulating specialty programs, and inspired events to ignite cultural enrichment.

History

The Museum’s story begins at 2855 Coral Springs Drive in a building designed by architect Donald Singer. Originally opened as a community center with a gymnasium and performance theater, the facility evolved as demand for arts and cultural programming grew.

In 1994, the City of Coral Springs dedicated funding to transform the facility into a center for the arts. The newly renovated Coral Springs Center for the Arts opened in 1996, and the Coral Springs Museum of Art was incorporated in January 1997.

Over the years, the Museum has welcomed artists, exhibitions and cultural experiences that have connected the community with art in unexpected ways. In 2015, internationally renowned pop artist Romero Britto was featured in an exhibition that culminated with the Blame It on Rio fundraiser and an opportunity for guests to meet the artist. In 2016, Tibetan Buddhist monks from the Drepung Gomang Monastery visited the Museum as part of their Sacred Art Tour, creating an intricate sand mandala during a multi-day public residency. Art also extended beyond the gallery walls, with outdoor works—including the recognizable Hima Lama sculpture—becoming part of the Museum and Center for the Arts experience.

In 2019, the Museum entered a new chapter when its nonprofit board voted to amend its bylaws, naming the Coral Springs City Commissioners as board members. The City Commission formally accepted the governance role that November. This closer alignment between the Museum and the City helped pave the way for expanded accessibility, including free admission, and set the stage for the Museum’s next major evolution.

In December 2023, the Coral Springs City Commission approved a lease agreement for a new Museum gallery in Downtown Coral Springs. In 2026, the Museum relocated to a modern space in the heart of downtown, providing greater visibility, accessibility and walkability.

The move also introduced a refreshed Museum identity. Developed in-house by the City of Coral Springs Communications & Marketing team, the new brand included a logo and visual identity, signage, merchandise, promotional materials, and a broader marketing strategy designed to introduce the Museum to new audiences.
